The National Eagle Center

On the balcony overlooking the Mississippi.
This is a juvenile bald eagle and is getting his white feathers. He can fly, but his one eye is useless so he cannot hunt in the wild.
Columbia
The National Eagle Center in Wabasha Minnesota. We took the family minus Gunnar(a busy kid) up to see the eagle center and it was very interesting. We had a photo taken with Columbia, a bald eagle who was hit by a car and they saved her from that and from lead poisoning. If she hadn't been hit by the car she would have died within a few days from the lead she had ingested. A tiny amount of lead kills these beautiful birds.
We had a great day along the banks of the Mississippi. Minnesota has about 1300 eagle nests that are documented. Alaska has over 10000. We are the second highest in the 50 states. Florida is the next highest.
