7th Grade tour of the U of M
Zeke found Jordan and Cory in the same cafeteria we had lunch in during our tour, this campus has over 52,000 students so I thought this was huge, we also ran into 3 other Austin students.
I spent a Friday watching 7th graders on a tour of the University of Minnesota, we walked over 2 miles while there, it is a huge campus with a bridge that spans the Mississippi, that is a walk on its own. Fun trip, I'm glad I was able to go as a chaperon. I has a fun talk with two of Zeke's teachers on the way up and back, both also had Gunnar. That was an interesting talk and then we talked about Eagle Bluff coming up in February and I want to go...please...3 days in the snow and ice....what could be better? This year they are adding archery...

JT and Halloween
His mask was hot so he kept taking it off and then putting it on, sometimes upside down. Zeke and Cenny had after school activities and so they missed the fun at Hormel. We then headed to Comforcare to see Toby and trick or treat there. The night wasn't really cold or warm for that matter. We hit the Anderson's house for dinner and then a few houses and still ended up with way too much candy.

Qatar is scary
Qatar scared several children with this look at the Hormel Trick or Treating. Their poor little faces were dropping when he walked in the door and then the tears and screaming. He took it off and still gathered candy.

Carrots
The boys went to their garden after the first freeze and hacked these out of the ground with a hammer. We did not eat them. We also grew a pumpkin, lots of tomatoes and some onions, next year we are growing more especially butternut squash...love that...yummy.

Fall Fun with pumpkins, trimming and gutter cleaning
We were not able to reach the gutter on the back of the house, the ladder barely touched the top, at its full length and it was scary so we will hire someone for that one next year. We hired someone last year and that is why we tried to do it ourselves this year. We got the rest of the gutters cleaned out and running. Trimming the trees and bushes away from the house and pulling all the plants that were dead was a fun weekend activity. We hauled 10 truck loads of leaves away and still need to do a few more, but the weather is turning cold and it will wait for spring. We did have snow last week for a few minutes.

Good Day
Today went so much better then yesterday. Kindergarten was a blast. A new class I had never met and they were so sweet and listened when I spoke or anyone else did. A very well run room that was a pleasure to sub in. This is the kind of experience I love to have and the reason I'm not ready to quit subbing yet.

Bad Day
I subbed in a 1st grade room today and WOW, I've been so lucky with great classrooms for so long that I forgot what its like to have a disruptive group of kids all feeding off of each other. This type of class makes me want to run and get a job some place else. It was a Zoo, there is not other word for it. I asked the kids if they were always this noisy and they all agreed they were, it was a conspiracy I'm positive.
Interesting factoid: Penguins only live in the Southern Hemisphere. Had to go to 1st grade to learn that little tidbit.

Pedometer
I read this book called The Great Fat Fraud that mentioned that if you walk 10,000 steps each day you can keep your weight at the current level, you may lose a few pounds when you start, but not much and then you will just stay steady as you age. Well I am aging and I want to keep extra pounds from sneaking up on me so I decided to try it.
The dollar tree pedometer was worth what I paid and kept turning itself off. I bought a Omron GoSmart that counts steps(not slow one), calories, miles and aerobic steps. 10,000 steps I thought would be easy. Wrong!!! It is about 5 miles and it takes work, my normal day only gets me about 2000 steps so I have to add lots more walking to make my 10,000.We will see how it all goes, but if you want to give it a try get a nice pedometer. I found this one on Pedometer reviews for the best. 20 dollars and it works great. I was shocked to find out how little I move during a normal day, winter weight is easy to put on when you only make 2000 steps a day.

Kids
JT is getting himself tossed out of Primary each Sunday for behavior problems, a few weeks ago I gave him half a granola bar right after Sacrament and sent him to Primary and he did great. Well fast Sunday came up and the next week I forgot the bar and he got tossed out again. This week I remembered and the teacher said he was a different child. Who knew...he was just hungry. I don't know why they just don't feed all the kids when they get there? It is 11:15AM and they most likely had breakfast at 7, he is not the only one with behavior problems. Just an idea.
No time for a bog breakfast because the kids eat at the normal time like everyday about 7AM and also we like to get to church on time so that means done with everything by 9:25AM teeth brushed, shoes, socks, etc. So breakfast would need to be done by 9AM and they would be starving by then. Keeping the schedule is important maybe we should have church at 8AM like school. Then lunch at home at 11:15 solves all the problems.
I think the church as a whole should do this, if Primary is between 11-2 hungry kids grumpy kids, full kids happy kids. If the mice are a problem then food should be banned from the whole church, we have more food on the floor after Sacrament then the primary room ever did and they at least vacuum the primary room.

Fun Date
I was teaching Kindergarten when I realized the date as I wrote it on the board. The other teacher in the room announced that she had heard on the news that already 40 plus babies had been born. A fun date to remember, Cenny and I went shopping after school and picked up flowers for Harlen and took them to the cemetery before returning home. We didn't want to forget him on Veterans Day. I hope you had a happy 11/11/11.

CC banquet at the end of the season
Last night was Qatar's cross country banquet and we were assigned to bring a side dish, I made butter potatoes and I forgot how good those are, but as Kristi has said, "Anything with a stick of butter in it has to taste good." Well they did, I also made a cherry dump cake and off we went at 6 PM, we got home after 10PM. The coach loves the kids and talked at least 5 minutes about each one and then did a photo montage of each senior for over that time and then talked. I thought I was going to fall asleep at the table. I love that my kids like to be involved, but sometimes I don't. I was still 1500 steps behind 10,000(another post soon)when we got home so I walked on the treadmill and then finally got to go to bed. I worked kindergarten and will again today, they can tire you out pretty quickly. This morning should be fun with JT and Cenneidigh being grouchy from a lack of sleep.

Six and four are nice round numbers
I'm surprised how much I like 6 and 4, things come in groups of both these numbers or at least in amount divisible by these numbers. Not much comes in 7's or 5's or divisions of those. 4 muffins or 1/2 a dozen...4 tickets for an event...etc. Having an odd number of kids really made that difficult, but with Gunnar gone for a bit I really enjoy the numbers 4 and 6 more then ever before. We do miss number 7 or 5...but oh well everything changes, and he will be back.

Another week of work and a broken washer
The washing machine won't agitate and yet when the repair guy was here it did everything it was suppose to. It was like a sick child at the doctors office running around. Well hopefully they can come again today and have another look so we can go back to doing laundry here at home. I spent most of Saturday at my parents doing a few loads of absolutely needed laundry for the week coming. Problem is I'm working and so we need to schedule after work for them and then it is usually around 5....ughhh. I just want it to work that all...not much to ask.

I'm that kind of Mom
JT wore one flip flop and one tennis shoe to school on Tuesday. I was yelling down the stairs as I was getting ready for work to be sure they were getting ready. I got downstairs and Cenny and JT were making candy piles. I freaked and told them to get in the car. Cenny missed the bus so I chased it a few blocks to the next stop and let her out. The I dropped JT at the crossing guard so I could just turn on the main road. He said he didn't have two of the same shoe on. I checked and freaked out again and told him too bad get out and go to school we will discuss this later and you are grounded.
He came home telling me everything went fine and his shoes were not a problem. I told him there were with me and to go to his room until dinner. He is a pain in the neck some days. He and Cenny had to dump all their candy together and not get any until after dinner and Cenny was grounded for missing the bus. If it had been a good reason I would have been understanding...this was because of candy. I hate the day after Halloween...the kids think it is a holiday and don't get that school and work are still going to happen the next day. JT told me he would be sick on Tuesday I told him he would be grounded next Halloween and I would write it on the calender so I wouldn't forget. He doesn't like it when I write things on the calender to remember....grounding...doctors appts...etc.
